The Wine House is pleased to offer the WSET Level 1 Foundation course! A suggested prerequisite for the WSET Level 2 Intermediatecourse, this is an entry-level course in which students learn the basics of wine in a format specially designed for those with no previous wine knowledge. It is ideal for consumers or those new to wine, and focuses on the main styles of wines available, tasting technique, wine and food pairing as well as wine service and etiquette. The class consists of a session of 6 hours that concludes with a short 30-question multiple-choice exam of 45 minutes. Successful candidates receive the internationally-recognized WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines.

WSET Level 1 Foundation is strongly recommended for those who have little training in or knowledge of wine.
The WSET L1 Foundation Course includes: 6 tuition hours, printed study guide, tasting of 10 wines, food pairing exercises, exam fee, certificate and lapel pin to successful candidates.

COURSE SYNOPSIS
o Wine Tasting: Taste and describe wines using the WSET® Systematic Approach to Tasting
o Food and Wine Matching: A practical guide to the key considerations when matching food and wine successfully
o Wine Service and Storage: Learn the correct way to store and serve wine and recognize common faults found in wine
o Social Responsibility: A guide to sensible drinking
o Types and Styles of Wine : Learn about what makes wines taste different
o Grape Varieties : Learn about the characteristics and styles of wines produced from the main grape varieties
o Main white grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling
o Main black grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah/Shiraz
o Named Wines: White: Pinot Grigio, Muscadet, Sancerre, Chablis, Sauternes
o Red: Claret, Beaujolais, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rioja, Chianti
o Number of Wines Tasted: 10 wines will be tasted as part of the course
o Study Materials: Students will receive the Foundation Certificate Study Guide
o Duration of course: 6 hours inclusive of examination
o Examination: 30 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 45 minutes. A mark of 70% required to pass
o Certification: All students who pass will be issued with a certificate suitable for framing and a lapel pin.
