Join Vini Franchetti Export Director Letizia Patane to taste the current wines from one of the most innovative winery owners in Italy, Andrea Franchetti. Andrea is one of three producers who saw the potential of Mt. Etna as a world class wine region over twenty years ago. His arrival on Etna helped to initiate the renaissance of viticulture on the mountain and an international discovery of the wines of Etna. Over the past decade, Sicily has become one of the hottest wine areas in Europe.  Mt. Etna, more specifically, has become the focus of the island’s most interesting wines.  Described by Jancis Robinson as the “Burgundy of the Mediterranean,” the wines of Mt Etna have elegance and a power that are now being recognized.

At Passopisciaro, many of his wines focus on the native grape Nerello Mascalese and its various expressions of terroir and altitudes through a series of crus, called contrade. With his vision, he led the charge and today Sicily reaps the benefits. We will taste his Passorosso, a bright, holistic rendering of the grape that is unique and ever-present on the volcano, blending from different altitudes and terroirs as well as a few contrade wines, and the Passobianco.

Andrea also established an estate in Tuscany, and today produces some of the region’s most sought-after Super Tuscans, which we will also sample at this tasting!
